THE BIG BREAKFAST & PUKEKO STOMP INFO:

The BIG BREAKFAST is back!
And this month's theme is ANIMALS!
We're celebrating St FRANCIS, the patron saint of animals, whose special day is in October.
 
WHEN:   Sunday October 5th
WHERE: St Luke's Church, 212 Pine Ave.
TIME:     10am
Bring along a stuffed animal toy....not a real one!!!!
Come along & enjoy a community BIG BREAKFAST, and sing some animal songs!

 MEANWHILE...... check this out:

This is a walk for kids & their parents, as part of THE BREEZE WALKING FESTIVAL.
WHEN:   October 1st
WHERE: Meeting at BURWOOD PLUNKET ROOMS [149 Burwood Road, Burwood]
WHAT:   A walk through part of the TRAVIS WETLANDS.
TIME:    10:30- 12 noon.

STUFF HAPPENING: There is going to be a story teller, a giant pukeko & some other
surprises!!! 
And fruit kebabs for morning tea!
Should be a FUN HOLIDAY ACTIVITY....aimed at babies in buggies, young walkers & their families...hope you can join in:)

Shake off that Winter Sluggishness......

We have a range of low-cost classes that are sure to suit your needs, with profession instructors.
SIT AND BE FIT
Mondays 1-2pm.         
Exercise while sitting down, in friendly company.
Brain gym, balance, breathing, joint mobility.
Music and fun.
$4 per session, or $24 per term.
TAI CHI
 Mondays 2.30-3.30pm.
Great for balance, co-ordination and relaxation.
A falls prevention program .
Term enrolments only. $18 for 6 weeks.
GENTLE EXERCISE
Thursdays 9.30-10.30 am.
More vigorous than "Sit and Be Fit", standing and moving to music.
$5 per session.

BIG FAMILY BREAKFAST

Hi there! It's been a while since I've popped in a post....but here's something well worth blogging about!

 10am on SUNDAY AUGUST 3rd.

FOR THE ADULTS
Julie Wylie will speak on Children's spirituality
FOR THE KIDS:
Treasure Hunt and craft activities.

About our speaker:
Julie founded the New Zealand Musical Parenting Association twenty two years ago. She is the founder and senior music specialist at the Champion Centre, at Burwood Hospital, Christchurch, New Zealand.
Julie has been invited to many countries to present music workshops and papers including Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, UK, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland.
She has received awards for her music leadership and her music resources have won international awards.
Julie also has her own music school for mothers and babies and children 0-8 years.

PUPPET FESTIVAL RUN DOWN
Here's some interesting facts & figures:
  • The Festival ran for 3 days (Friday-Sunday)
  • 770 people paid to see shows at $2 per head.
  • At least another 100 under 2 year old attended free.
  • 32 people attended 3 free workshops.
  • 9 puppet troupes or solo performers presented 18 shows.
  • 2 performers traveled from Auckland and Wellington respectively;y to participate in the Festival.
  • Free pre-show puppet entertainment was presented at most shows.
  • 2 Family Nights were held, 1 to a full house at St Luke's Church, South Brighton.
  • 3 shows were presented at each Family Night.
  • There were 4 full houses over the Festival.
  



Volounteers manned the door. Total Volunteer hours for the Festival (including specific rehearsal time) approx. 259 hours.
To sum up, the Festival is popular, creative, wholesome and a significant contributor to community life, and achieves the aims of promoting puppetry and supporting and encouraging puppeteers.
Positive feedback from the public included:

 “It's lovely to see people getting together for something REAL.”
 “We came across town because we liked the sound of a Family Night”
