POTATO POTATO POTATO.....

Yes! It's all about the humble SPUD!
Te Waka Aroha is planning a SPUD-FEST for the end of October.
WHY? They ought to be celebrated - just think  how versatile & how much a part of our life they are!
They're humble, simple, available, cheap, nourishing & yummy!
And make great pets....just kidding!!!
So far, we've thought up these ideas:
Potato races, printing, cooking....& a bit of Irish music seems appropriate...have YOU got some ideas?

This is to be a COMMUNITY CELEBRATION & we want to get YOU involved.....it's going to be a down to earth, fun, old-fashioned style festival......so, if you're keen to celebrate the potato, then phone 3889118 or email us at stfaiths1@gmail.com or pop into The Lounge [M-F between 10am-4pm].
We'd LOVE to hear from you:):)

Did you know......

COOKING CLASSES which ran over 6 weeks have now finished. It was a great program with lots of yummy food being produced! Janne Pasco from the Canterbury District Health Board was totally inspiring!
There are no plans to run them again at the moment, as NEW BRIGHTON COMMUNITY GARDENS will be doing just this - free courses in cooking from the garden - if you're interested, click this link HERE to find out more!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UKELELE CLASSES have begun for Term 2 this week - there's still time to join in, if this is something you've always wanted to do but never had the chance! Newcomers are welcome next week - TUESDAY 4th JUNE, but after that you'll have to put your name down for Term 3!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VEGE CO-OP just keeps growing & growing...latest number of bags picked up? 231!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SEWING Pam will not be at the centre for the next couple of weeks - June 3 & 10 - so you'll have to save it up for after then!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
POTS & PLANTERS URGENTLY NEEDED
Got some old pots or planters just sitting around looking sad......we're looking at getting a little outdoor garden going in the Spring....so we need them to brighten the centre up!!!
Email: stfaiths1@gmail.com or ring us on 3889118 if you have some you'd like to donate:):)

Take care now - blessings!

Plans are a-FOOT.....

THE IDEA: to provide a bit of pampering, social time AND a health service, particularly for those who find it difficult to cut their own nails.
Foot massaging, toe nails cut, a cuppa.......sounds good to me!
WHERE: clinics will be held at both St Faith's in New Brighton & St Andrew's in North Beach.
WHEN: in the Spring......we intend to run the clinic every 6 weeks.
http://www.cobblerbills.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/foot-massage.jpg
BUT FIRST, we need some volunteers to make this happen!
This would entail being available for one 3 hour session every 6 weeks.
TRAINING will be provided by Parklands Baptist Church, who have a successful clinic operating & are keen to help us get going.
INTERESTED? Ring or let Mary know at The Community Centre - 3889118 -

BITS & PIECES...

Hello there!
A couple of things we thought you might like to know about:
  New-Brighton-Waterpark-WEB1.jpg
NEW BRIGHTON WATERPARK
On Tuesday there was an 'info' night at The Lounge for the the proposed Aquatic Centre. Tim Sintes gave a great talk and encouraged people to check out this website:
It's a GREAT concept & would work brilliantly to provide our community with not just a fantastic facility, but would draw the community together as well. If you follow the link HERE, you'll be able to sign the petition online - we need as many people as possible to do this BEFORE FEB 18TH - so please click the link & show your support!
New-Brighton-Waterpark Swimming Pools
LENT
Lent begins with an Ash Wednesday service on WEDNESDAY 13TH FEBRUARY  you are all most welcome to join us for that....plus, there is a
Lenten study  beginning called 'Life of Prayer'  If you'd like to join us for that, ring Katrina or Carlie  on 388 9118 for more details:)
